FAMILY SETUP GUIDE

Build an academic routine.
Grow in faith together.

Best Nest Academy brings traditional Pre-K–12 academic resources into a Christian family-learning framework. Reading, writing, mathematics, science, history, and other core subjects remain central. Parents can add Scripture study, Christian character discussions, and service alongside each school day. Some linked outside providers are not faith-based.

Our approach to faith and academics

Keep the full academic program while integrating biblical values such as integrity, compassion, stewardship, and service. Our Young-Earth Creationism perspective is a religious teaching. In science, accurately identify mainstream scientific accounts and evidence rather than presenting belief and science as interchangeable. Christian revisions to existing lesson resources are ongoing.

1. Open the right materials

Choose a grade, then open each provider’s course overview. Download its scope and sequence, teacher guidance, student materials, and assessment information. Follow the provider’s actual lesson order. A first-unit link is a starting point, not the whole course.

Core Knowledge downloads use subject, grade, and language filters. Early CKLA needs both Skills and Listening & Learning. Keep one edition throughout a course. Current middle-school Core Knowledge Science uses integrated units.

2. Check access, books, and supplies

Free digital curriculum does not mean every required item is free. Grade 4 CKLA needs Brown Girl Dreaming. Grade 5 needs They Call Me Güero and The Science of Breakable Things for their listed units. CommonLit’s novel and play units also need separate lawful copies. Check your library before buying, and use the provider’s edition list.

AccessIM student and family materials are public; restricted answers and assessments require verified educator access. CommonLit has free individual educator access and a homeschool-verification process; this does not establish eligibility for a commercial academy. OpenSciEd requires free registration for downloads. iCivics Through Inquiry uses an educator-access request; confirm homeschool eligibility before relying on it. Handle provider registration directly with that provider. No accounts are created through this page.

Science activities can require equipment and consumables. Review materials, adult-supervision instructions, and alternatives before scheduling. A reading assignment alone does not demonstrate laboratory skills.

3. Use the 36-week calendar flexibly

Our 180-day planner is a blank planning framework, not an invented provider lesson count. Record the unit, lesson, chapter, or activity you actually use. Split a long lesson, combine short activities, revisit difficult work, and follow provider pacing. Save the day before changing pages. Review marks mean an adult checked or discussed the work; they are not grades.

4. Keep evidence of learning

Keep dated writing, worked math, source notes, investigations, and projects. Use provider answer keys, rubrics, and assessments where access permits. At roughly weeks 9, 18, 27, and 36, compare samples and choose skills to revisit. Do not treat an external link or a checked box as evidence that a course has been mastered.

High-school planning

The suggested math sequence is Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, then Precalculus. The suggested science sequence is Biology, Chemistry, Physics, then an optional Astronomy study. Place the learner by prerequisites and goals rather than age alone. Astronomy is a textbook-based elective requiring adult pacing and assessment; it is not a packaged daily course.

The social-studies pathway uses Big History, World History, modern U.S. History, then government and economics. The modern U.S. History course starts in 1877; use the linked history textbook for earlier-history review when needed. Saylor economics is college-oriented and may need a reduced pace and support. These selections do not award credits, a transcript, or a diploma; arrange the required course record with the school or program responsible for that.

CommonLit grades 11–12 use the existing Edition 1.0. Edition 2.0 is still being released for those grades; do not substitute an unfinished edition without checking its available units.

Saving your work

Use a different learner nickname for each child. Each grade’s plan is separate, including the optional grade 3 resource pathway and the original grade 3 course. Notes and review marks remain in this browser. Download logs regularly for readable copies; they cannot restore the site’s records automatically. Provider progress remains on provider websites and is not imported here.
